Before you dive into removal and installation of the toilet, it is important for you to make sure that you have all the necessary tools in place and you must be willing to get your hands dirty. In case you do not have the necessary tools and you don’t want to get your hands dirty, it is much better to give a call to a recommended plumber to do the job for you. Do not try to do it on your own without the necessary tools even if you have watched a DIY video 25 times. It's not as easy as it looks in the video. If you're prepared, here is what you need to do in order to remove the old toilet and replace it with a new one.

Removing the Old Toilet

First and foremost, you need to turn off the water supply and flush the toilet in order to remove all the water. If there is some water left at the bottom, you also need to get rid of that water. Most plumbers use a professional tool called a wet vac to get rid of the excess water but you can also use it a towel and a bucket. In simple terms, you need to make sure that there is no water remaining in the toilet.

You will notice that the toilet cistern is secured to the wall with the help of a couple of screws. You will need to unscrew these to remove the unit from the wall. Now, take a close look below the cistern and you will find two wing nuts that are used to secure it to be toilet. Just unscrew them and it will allow you to lift the cistern from the toilet. It's time to remove the toilet waste pipe or the soil pipe from the toilet. Once you remove the soil pipe, it is now time to remove the toilet.

You'll find that most of the toilets are kept in place with the help of a bit of silicone and a few screws. So, you will need to get rid of the silicone and the screws in order to remove the toilet. After undoing the screws, remove the soil pipe on the back and this should allow you to remove the toilet completely. Once the old toilet has been removed, you should take some time to give a good cleaning to the floor and get rid of any debris still there. Do not start the installation process without the cleaning.

Installing the New Toilet

As you must have figured out by now, the process of installing a new toilet is a complete reversal of the removal job. Here's what you need to do in order to install the new toilet.

First and foremost, you need to get the new toilet into position. Rest it in the place where you want it to be and make sure that it’s at the right place before you try to secure it to the floor with the help of screws and silicon. If you do not check the positioning beforehand, you will end up making a lot of unnecessary mess.

It's time to fit the soil pipe in its place. Experts recommend running some silicon inside of the pipe to prevent any water lakes. Now, drop the cistern onto the toilet and if you deem it necessary, put a bit of silicon behind the new cistern in order to keep it secure. Once everything is in place, it's now time to fix the water supply. Fixing the water supply should be relatively easy.

Conclusion

If the above instructions are not clear, there are also a lot of videos online wherein they show you exactly how to do the job. However, you should know that installation of a new toilet may also involve use of compression fittings or soldering or some other things. This is the reason, experts recommend hiring the services of an experienced and professional plumber in order to avoid any potential problems and to ensure that your new toilet works as it should.

Hiring the services of a professional for removal and installation of a new toilet is not that costly and it will ensure that you don’t have any leakage issues.
